Wagering requirement calculator: what a bonus really costs

A wagering requirement tells you how much you have to bet to turn a bonus into cash. For example, a 35x requirement on a €100 bonus means you have to make €3,500 worth of bets to turn that bonus into cash.

Most calculators stop there. This calculator takes into account the RTP of the slot you play, because, on average, every bet you make costs a small share, and over thousands of euros of bets that small share decides whether the bonus is worth anything.

How wagering requirements are calculated

Multiply the amount the wagering applies to by the number of times. Most offers count the bonus only, some count the deposit and the bonus together, which, in a 100% bonus, doubles the total.

Multiply that total by the house edge of the game. That's how much the wagering costs on average, before luck plays its part.

If the cost is bigger than the bonus, the offer loses money, on average, no matter how it is presented.

This calculator assumes you finish the wagering; the wagering stops if your balance goes to zero first.

Wagering requirements at the casinos we review

Eight of the ten casinos we review have a deposit bonus. Here is what a €100 bonus on a €100 deposit costs to wager on the slot checked in each review, at the RTP that casino runs.

On these terms every one of them costs more than the €100 bonus on average. The cheapest is HellSpin, where Le Bandit runs its top version; the dearest is Glorion, where wagering counts the deposit too and Le Bandit runs at 92.17%.

The same bonus on a top-version slot can cost about half as much. That is the part of the offer you can control. Casinos listed in order of the versions they run: best payout online casinos.

Why RTP decides the wagering requirement cost

While the wagering multiple drives the discussion, in truth it is the RTP of the game that ultimately determines how much you pay for each euro wagered. A 4 percentage point drop in RTP more than doubles the cost.

Many casinos run lower RTP versions of the same slot. Wagering a bonus on the 92.17% version of Le Bandit costs over twice as much as on the 96.34% version.

The maths behind it: house edge vs RTP.

Wagering requirement rules that change the result

Not every bet counts in full. 7Bit's general bonus terms count video slots at 100%, other games at 5% and live casino games at 0%. At 5%, each euro bet clears only five cents of wagering.

The same terms cap bets at €5 while using bonus funds, outside of the welcome offer. Bonus buys usually break this bet cap.

The reason bought features and bonuses do not get along: bonus buy RTP.

Wagering requirement calculator FAQ

How do I calculate a wagering requirement?

Multiply the bonus (or deposit plus bonus, if the terms say so) by the wagering requirement. A €100 bonus with a 35x wagering requirement means you need to make €3,500 worth of bets.

How much does wagering a bonus cost?

Multiply the amount wagered by the house edge. At a 96.34% slot, €3,500 worth of bets would be expected to cost about €128.10 on average.

Is a 35x wagering requirement good?

It depends on the RTP. At a 96.5% slot, 35x a €100 bonus costs €122.50 on average, still more than the bonus.

Do all games count towards wagering?

No. 7Bit's terms count video slots at 100%, other games at 5% and live casino at 0%.

What does wagering on deposit plus bonus mean?

Both are multiplied. A €100 deposit + €100 bonus with 35x would mean you would need to wager €7,000.

How many spins does wagering take?

Divide the total by your bet. €3,500 worth of bets at €1 a spin would mean you would need to make 3,500 spins.
